Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sriracha or chili paste (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for extra heat)
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • Cooked rice or noodles for serving

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef:
    • Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
    • Add the thinly sliced beef and cook until browned and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
  2. Cook the Vegetables:
    • In the same pan, add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 2-3 minutes.
    • Add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
    • Add the sliced bell peppers and cook for 2-3 minutes until they start to soften.
  3. Combine and Spice It Up:
    • Return the beef to the pan with the vegetables.
    • Stir in the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sriracha or chili paste, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
    • Cook for another 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until everything is well combined and heated through.
  4. Finish and Serve:
    • Remove from heat and stir in the chopped cilantro.
    • Serve hot over cooked rice or noodles.
